The number of skype interviews our clients request has risen considerably. They are also really useful when we register candidates for jobs.
They are a great way to get to know candidates when time or space is limited. They are also used as an initial screening process for our clients.
Unfortunately SKYPE interviews don’t come without their problems and it is always worth making sure you are fully prepared before your interview time starts.
If you are being interviewed by a direct employer, we would always suggest you do the same amount of research and preparation as you would in a face to face meeting. Find out about the company and if you can, the person who will interview you. Look at the website and if they have one, the careers pages to see what kind of people they employ. Go through the job description and look at the skills and competencies needed and have a think about what examples you can provide to show how relevant you are.
Being prepared will make sure that there are no careless mistakes, whether this means thinking about the kinds if questions you might be asked, choosing the right quiet place to have your interview, and making sure that you look like you are serious about job hunting (you may be at home but colourful onesies are definitely not an option).
