Global specialists in Crisis Communications & Corporate Reputation Management in Maritime sector is expanding and recruiting a corporate communication specialist. This role will be servicing the international maritime and shipping sector, providing crisis media and reputation management services. This is a challenging and interesting sector and an appreciation of Geo Politics, International Relations & Affairs would be advantageous.
You will be on standby to manage the media should one of their clients be subjected to media intrusion due to suffering a maritime incident or corporate difficulty. Examples include:
• Vessel collision or grounding
• Pollution or other environmental damage
• Seafarer death or injury
• Terrorist attack
• Piracy attack
• Allegations of smuggling
• Allegations of bribery, corruption or other corporate wrong-doing
As a company, they generally handle around 200 incidents throughout the year, the vast majority of them being fairly minor. Outside of managing incidents other duties include media training, drills and exercises and documentation. You will take responsibility for delivering strategic and hands on media advice to clients during an incident, managing media calls and messaging as well as producing follow-up reports and analysis. Other core elements of the role include client relationship management and care, media training at all levels and business development.
The role will involve travel to perform training a few days each month, alongside being "on call" to monitor the 24/7 incident line a few weekends each year plus one evening each week - occasionally more, as needs arise. In the event of a serious incident, you will need to relocate to the scene of the incident at immediate notice (this is a very rare occurrence).
Crisis communications/reputation management experience essential, preferably in a B2B environment
Knowledge of shipping/maritime is useful but not essential
Calm and organised in a crisis
Able to write clear, concise English
Able to communicate effectively at all management levels and able to hold their own at C level
Polished and effective presenter/trainer
Willing to travel and work out of hours where required
Currently 100% remote with expectation of hybrid working in City of London office later in 2021
